All songs on the compilations are performed by artists or bands that performed in Hoogstraten, Belgium on the Caribbean Festival.

This compilation does not give a complete overvieuw of the Caribbean musical landscape. It does not offer a scientific analysis nor a bare catalogue. "Caribbean Beat" presents a diverse collection of authentic, danceable songs from artists who are famous and well-respected on their own islands and regions, and who best represent their respective musical traditions.
The common factor between all the artists appearing on this compilation , is their performance at the "Antilliaanse Feesten", the Caribbean Music Festival in Hoogstraten, Belgium. This festival started in 1983 as a small garden party and became the only festival in the world (besides Colombia's "Festival de Musica Caribe" in Cartagena) which brought together al the different Caribbean music styles. It is ironic that all of his should occur in Belgium, a country located very far away from the "islands" tropical sun, rum, coconut trees and home of the kindest people on the globe!
